Follow Natalie's journey as she learns to depend upon herself through hard work and rough training. Run with her as she
flees capture by villainous pirates, is imperiled by blood-thirsty cannibals, encounters ships of starving, half-dead madmen,
and finally battles those same fearsome buccaneers whom she evaded before, all before her seventeenth birthday.
The story of a young woman's struggle to establish her own identity in a world dominated by men, and where women are relegated to
nothing more than commodities. What better time or place in history for such a tale than the Golden Age of Piracy. These stories
chronicle the adventures of Natalie Brennan Satterfield, a prim and proper young lady of 18th century London, as she battles pirates,
storms, and the prejudices men hold for her gender. The third in the series, entitled The Devil's Footprint, is undergoing the editorial
process now. What an adventure it has been! As far as pirate books go, this is not your typical swash-swash-buckle-buckle pirate
yarn, but more an adventure, written in the spirit of books such as Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe, Piratica, and Bloody Jack. If
you've had the pleasure of reading any of these, I believe you'll enjoy Natalie's Good Fortune: A Tale of Piracy and Adventure.

Nowhere To Run ...
A cold dread settled over Natalie as she realized the intent behind Hart’s
words. Without taking her eyes off the vile man, Natalie assessed her situation.
The cabin in which she stood was small and cluttered, the chart table at her
back, leaving little room to outmaneuver the old salt. She would have to battle
her way past him. Hart took a step, and with a mighty lunge, Natalie launched
herself upon the sea dog.
A blinding white flash of pain overwhelmed Natalie and she dropped to her
knees when Hart's meaty hand met her cheek. Struggling to keep her senses in
the spinning room, Natalie reeled back and, using the chart table for support,
managed to regain her feet. Hart stood grinning before her.
Steadying herself and shaking the wobblies from her head, Natalie lunged
again, only to find herself caught in an iron grip. One hand tightened around her
right wrist while another squeezed her throat. She willed herself not to cough,
even as her feet left the deck. She struggled to pry the man's fingers from her
neck with her free hand.
In a whirl of motion, Hart spun his victim with brutal force and slammed her
against the bulkhead. The hard pine had no give when Natalie’s head and
shoulder pounded the dense wood. The room seemed to swirl around, and
Natalie crumpled to the deck in a daze, barely aware of Hart settling to his
knees before her. Lying on her back, she pressed her hands to her temples to try
to squeeze out the pain and dizziness.
“Well, now,” Hart said as he looked on Natalie’s bare legs, “this ought to be an
easy task.”
The Adventures of Natalie Brennan - where in the world of 18th century sailing ships and the men who work them is a
dangerous place for the average girl of only seventeen years, but Natalie Brennan is no average girl. Having faced bloodthirsty
savages, challenged the limitless and deadly power of the sea, and tested her mettle in the brutality and violence of battle, Natalie has
earned the right to sail. With the treasure map of Jacques LeTessierre in hand, Natalie and her crew set canvas to the wind in her
search for the late pirate captain's horde of gold and silver. The crew of the Natalie's Good Fortune are not alone in their quest, and
soon find themselves in a perilous race for the prize. In the absence of her mentor Black John Hayes, Natalie alone must lead her
crew. Through her own ingenuity and determination, Natalie must remain one-step ahead of those who would steal her treasure and
proves herself a fearless and cunning leader.

A Tale of Piracy and Adventure - The year is 1722; a time in which the most notorious pirates to roam the seas have been hunted
down, men and women such as Bartholemew Roberts, Charles Vane, Calico Jack Rackam, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and of course,
Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard. There are still many pirates upon the seas however, lesser known but just as dangerous,
pirate captains with names like Edward Low, Thomas Anstis, and John Gow still prowl the trade routes for booty. During this time,
sixteen year old Natalie Brennan Satterfield sails for the colonies of America. Her world is destroyed when the ship she sails upon is
attacked by a band of ruthless pirates on the Caribbean Sea. Managing a desperate escape, she finds herself marooned on an uncharted
speck of an island. She is not alone however, and the pampered and privileged life of the London merchant's daughter is soon filled
with adventure and peril as she pushes ever forward to the American coast, finding strength within her heart which she never imagined
did exist.
A Merciless Teacher ...
Having made his assessment John took a defensive step backward, drawing
Natalie in like a spider hiding in the corner of his web. Emboldened by John’
s defensive posture, Natalie leapt forward in a lunge, stabbing at John’s
midsection, but leaving her own position vulnerable. John brought a
tremendous blow down upon Natalie’s rod, deftly knocking the stick from
her hand, then with a counter blow he whacked her, without mercy, a terrific
blow across the face.
Natalie dropped to the ground howling in pain, her hands pressed tightly
over her injured mouth and cheek. She rolled onto her back and writhed on
the deck, and this time could not hold back her sobs. John looked upon her
with a heavy heart, wanting to console her and regretting the force with
which he had struck her; hoping he had not broken her nose or knocked out
any of her teeth. However, he steeled himself against any show of emotions.
She had to believe in her heart there would be terrible pain inflicted upon
her every time they sparred. She would require a tremendous amount of
desire and determination to learn the craft of fighting with the blade.
Furthermore, she would have to fight through pain and humiliation to attain
the degree of mastery she needed, especially being a woman, in order to be
capable of fighting experienced men, and not end up with a steel blade run
through her belly. No man would back away from a tussle with a woman,
and more likely would take her on just as a matter of showing her a lesson.
The average man would believe her to be but a mere girl, weak and having
not the stomach to maim or kill, so she would have to fight like a devil.
"I can only tell you from my own experiences ... I've seen waves as high as mountains, I've seen monsters which
could swallow a ship whole, and I've seen pirates who wanted nothing more than to drink a man's blood and
shower themselves with his gold ..."

Facing Certain Death ...
"Do you understand woolding?" the captain said. "Have you ever seen it done?"
Standing silent before the captain, Natalie admitted to herself she had not a notion
of the word, much less the act. She had heard and read of the many euphemistic
names for punishments and tortures aboard naval ships; kissing the gunners
daughter, letting the cat out of the bag, keelhauling and such. However, woolding
seemed a term with which she found herself unfamiliar.
"No," Natalie said.
A round of nervous snickers coursed through the men.
"Woolding," the captain began, his voice loud and even, "is when we tie a cable
about your head, just above the eyes here." He stabbed a finger against Natalie's
forehead and drew a line across her brow. "Then we slip a belaying pin in the
backside and starts to twist that pin about, tightening the cable about your little
gourd. It squeezes your skull it does, and when it does you'll start a-crying, letting
the tears flow like rivers, you will, and wanting to pay us to set you loose. A
little tighter and you'll start to begging and pleading, sobbing your little heart out
like a child, offering your family fortunes and your estates. Another twist of the
pin and the panic and crushing pain will be upon you. You'll cry out for us to take
your girlish favours, begging us all to have you that way. We won't though. One
more twist and your head will collapse upon itself and your eyeballs will pop out
of their sockets. Then you will scream and scream and scream until there is no
more breath in your lungs."
Everything fell silent. Not a man laughed or chuckled.
"Woold her," Old Cedar said. "Tis my fight."
